To bring home the dangers of driving under the influence, or while texting, a "Shattered Dreams" event was held for our senior class Tuesday morning. The event was also used as a training exercise by our Vernon Police and Fire Departments, along with the Wilbarger County Sheriff's Office, DPS, and AirVac. The staged wreck involved two vehicles, with a total of 6 victims. Three victims were transported to the hospital for their injuries, while there was one fatality. And, one arrest was made for driving under the influence.

Last week students in our VHS Life Skills class took a field trip to the Riverbend Nature Center in Wichita Falls. After touring the nature center, the students enjoyed eating at Chuck E. Cheese, and had dessert at Yogurt Journey to wrap up a fun-filled day.

Members of our Vernon Elementary Student Council gave tours to our incoming 2nd graders Monday morning. The students were split into three groups, with the student council members with each group showing the students around and providing directions on how things work at VES. At the end of their tours, the students were given a sweet treat courtesy of our cafeteria staff. We believe our incoming 2nd graders are going to be a great addition to our VES family in 2026-27!

Every athlete who is entering the 7th, 9th, or 11th grade next year, or who suffered a major injury this season, MUST have a sports physical before they will be allowed to take part in any school athletics. The sports physicals will begin at 6 p.m., at the Doctor's Clinic, 4301 College Dr., the building just north of the hospital.
