Tune in to KAUZ Channel 6 news today at both 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., as our VHS cheerleaders will be on the air live!!

The Class of 2026 had a great turnout for their "last, first day of high school" sunrise event this morning at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.

We kicked off the 2025-26 school year this morning, but last night we had students and parents on our VHS campus picking up class schedules, meeting teachers and getting ready for the school year.

We had a packed house at VMS last night as students picked up their class schedules, and both parents and students found their classrooms and met their teachers for the 2025-26 school year.

Today may be the first day of school, but Tuesday night VES was full of both students and parents, as we held our Meet The Teacher event.

Today is the first day of school and last night McCord Elementary students and parents filled the halls for Meet The Teacher.

Here is the August activities calendar for VMS.

VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward started the first day of school at Vernon Middle School greeting students as they stepped off the bus. Dr. Ward planned on stopping by each campus today as VISD begins its 2025-26 school year.

We have some wonderful PTOs at our campuses. Children do better in school when they see their parents involved and interested in what they are doing.

We can't wait until the first day of school!!

VHS sophomores, juniors and seniors, if you have your ID badge from last year, please make sure you wear it tomorrow when we begin the 2025-26 school year. After we see who still has their badge, we will make a list of those students who need a new badge. Freshmen, we will issue ID badges later. We're looking forward to seeing EVERYONE -- whether you have a badge or not -- tomorrow!!

Monday afternoon several former teachers and other residents stopped by Vernon Elementary to pray in small groups with our staff as we prepare for our first day of school on Wednesday. We appreciate the support and know it is going to be a great year!

Our Vernon Elementary team is geared up and ready to get the 2025-26 school year started and make it one of the best ones ever!!
