We are getting a little head start on our Spring Break, as tomorrow is an Early Release Friday. We hope everyone has a safe, fun and relaxing Spring Break. Classes resume on Monday, March 17.

This is the last week of our Kids Heart Challenge!
We hope your student has been having fun and learning lots of new things about helping their hearts and helping others! You're doing our community a HUGE favor by helping to bring the awareness to heart disease, stroke, and CPR. The awareness leads to funding, and the funding leads to hope to ANYONE with a heart!
Can you help us by: thinking of 10 family or friends who love to help and send them a message through the VES KHC page or app!? http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=11259&pg=company&company_id=479759

Vernon ISD will be on Spring Break March 8-16. We hope all of our students and their families, along with our teachers and staff enjoy the break and get the chance to do something fun and relax.
We will return on Monday, March 17, ready to hit the ground running as we close out the 2024-25 school year.

This week, March 2-8, is National School Social Worker Week, and Vernon ISD is lucky to have one of the best in Nicole Cameron. Nicole does an outstanding job covering our campuses and helping students and their families.

Here is the VISD cafeteria menu for March. All of our VISD students are eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch every school day.

Quick reminder!
Tomorrow is an Early Release Friday for Vernon ISD students.

QUICK REMINDER!!
It is "Pajama For A Purpose Day" tomorrow! Students and staff at all campuses who want to wear their pajama pants (appropriate for school) Thursday may do for a $3 donation. The fundraiser is for a VMS student who lost all of their belongs in a recent house fire. Each campus will have a process in place to collect donations and identify those students who paid to wear their pajama pants.

Our Kids Heart Challenge started last week and we are doing a fantastic job. But, there's more we can do.

The Vernon ISD 2025-26 school calendar was approved during last week's VISD School Board meeting. The first day of school for 2025-26 will be Aug. 13. The fall break is set for Oct. 17-20, and school will be dismissed for the entire week of Thanksgiving. The Christmas break will be from Dec. 20 thru Jan. 6, 2026. Next year's spring break is scheduled for March 7-15, 2026, and the last day of school will be May 21, 2026.

Time is running out to nominate your favorite Vernon ISD teacher in the Red River Best Chevy Dealers Teacher Appreciation Contest. Students, parents, residents and teachers can go online and nominate their choice for Outstanding Teacher!! The deadline is this Friday, Feb. 28.

All VISD students and staff can be extra comfortable Thursday as it is "Pajama For A Purpose Day!" Students and staff at all campuses who want to wear their pajama pants (appropriate for school) Thursday may do for a $3 donation. The fundraiser is for a VMS student who lost all of their belongs in a recent house fire.

Hopefully this week Vernon ISD will have more of a regular, normal week. However, there are no classes tomorrow for a teacher workday, and Friday is one of the district's early release Fridays. We hope everyone is enjoying this nice weather! Definitely better than last week's frigid temperatures.

This morning four of our students who just also happen to be Camp Fire girls, Isabella Meurs, Grace Jansa, Camilla Parmer and Lillianna Gonzales, were guests on KVWC's Friday morning show "This, That & The Other" with host Kathy McClellan. The girls announced Camp Fire's annual Candy Sale will begin late next week or the first week of March, and talked about the fun they have and what they enjoy about being in Camp Fire.

It's been a crazy week with no classes on Monday, early dismissal Tuesday due to weather and no school Wednesday because of the weather. So, don't forget tomorrow is one of VISD's regularly-scheduled early release Fridays. We hope everyone has a nice weekend with the warmer weather coming our way.

Vernon ISD will be operating on a regular schedule on Thursday. Buses will run at their regular times and classes will start at their regular times. We encourage everyone to bundle up because it is still going to be extremely cold tomorrow.

Due to the slick road conditions and with the extreme cold temperatures not expected to allow the road conditions to improve, Vernon ISD officials have announced school will be closed Wednesday. We hope everyone stays safe and warm tomorrow.

Due to the swiftly deteriorating road conditions, Vernon ISD Administrators have made the decision to dismiss school early. Buses will begin running at 1:30 p.m. at McCord. 1:35 p.m., Vernon Elementary; 1:40 p.m. Vernon Middle School; 1:45 p.m. Vernon High School. Those parents who would like to pick up their child before 1:30 p.m. may do so. Vernon Elementary students who usually go to Boys & Girls Club will stay at VES due to club not having enough staff.
We will send out information about tomorrow later this evening.

While the students were out of school yesterday, our teachers and staff were in school -- at least for half a day. Monday was a Professional Development Day for our teachers and staff, but it wasn't all work and no play. There were PD sessions for half a day, and for the other half of the day teachers and staff had the option of going to a movie at the Vernon Plaza or getting a little artistic at Paint Your Peace. Regardless of what option they chose, all had a good time.

February is Career & Technical Education Month, and Vernon ISD has an outstanding CTE Program. Plus, last year every senior earned their CCMR point before graduating. Check out the link: https://youtube.com/shorts/JYnU0bKxd4A?feature=share
