Vernon ISD is happy to announce a partnership with Child Care Partners to provide child care services for community families with children from 6 weeks to 4 years old. This facility will be located in a portion of the Central Elementary School building. The facility hopes to be open by late spring. With area school districts closing due to low attendance, we want our parents and community to know that while Vernon ISD has seen an uptick in absences due to the illnesses that are circulating, our attendance rate has not dropped to the level of closing school.
With the flu and other illnesses hitting the area pretty hard over the last week or two, here are some quick reminders for our VISD parents when they have a sick child.

With the area receiving a minimum amount of precipitation today, and with temperatures forecast to stay above freezing overnight, Vernon ISD officials have announced the district will be operating on a regular school day schedule on Monday. Buses will run at their regularly scheduled time.
In August, Vernon ISD started using a new parent-teacher communication app called Rooms. Many of our parents are already signed up and using Rooms with the teachers of their children. For anyone who works in a public school, the Christmas Break is always a welcome time of the year. It is a time when we get to refresh our batteries. For some, it is a time to completely remove themselves from the job, but as a superintendent, I can never fully disengage. Whenever I have tried it, I always develop a sense of low-key anxiety thinking about the lost opportunity to get a little ahead of the job.
