Here are some action shots of our Lions and Lady Lions as they competed in the TTCA Region 1 Team Tennis Tournament held last weekend in Wichita Falls. The VHS tennis team successfully defended their Region 1 title and will be looking to defend their state crown this weekend at the TTCA State Team Tennis Tournament in Waco.







Due to the lack of umpires, our Lady Lions softball game against Iowa Park has been moved to tomorrow, Wednesday. Game time remains the same, 5 p.m. This is the Lady Lions' District 7-3A home opener.


We had 11 Lady Lions medal at the Regional Powerlifting Meet last Saturday and 3 qualify for the State Powerlifting Meet. In the Equipped Division, Kamryn Hall was the regional champ in her weight class and will move on to State, while Juanita Salazar, Chloe Diekmann, Zayleigh Sweet and Kellan Byars finished fourth and Zayley Horn was third. In the Unequipped Division, Klancy Sherrill and Olivia Carr claimed second place in their weight divisions to qualify for the State Meet. Also placing in the Unequipped Division were Jeana Martinez, third place, and Emily Martinez and Erianna Chavez, fourth place. Great job Lady Lions!! We're proud of you!!



Today, our Vernon Lion and Lady Lion golfers competed in the Wichita County Golf Championship at the Wichita Falls Country Club. Vernon was one of the smallest schools to participate in the tournament, and Claire Mayo claimed the bronze medal in the girls' individual medalist competition. Claire, a freshman, shot a 93. Great job Claire!!


Vernon Elementary Students of the Week honorees for last week are: 2nd & 3rd Grade -- M.J. Villeda & Camilla Alvarado; and 4th & 5th Grade -- Shelby Shaffer & Bryleigh Owens. Congratulations!! Last month Vernon ISD held a CTE Fair for all of our 7th, 8th and 9th grade students. At the fair, students were able to hear presentations from local residents who have jobs within a career pathway in which the student has shown an interest. One of our CTE industry partners for the Animal Science pathway is Wilbarger County farmer Austen White (center in photo). Thank you Austen for taking time to visit with our students. We appreciate your support.



Last Wednesday, some members of our VMS Student Council volunteered to help prepare and serve the evening meal at the 1st Methodist Church Mission Kitchen.



CONGRATULATIONS!! To our Lions tennis team as they claimed the regional title at the TTCA Class 3A & Below Region 1 Team Tennis Tournament this morning in Wichita Falls. The Lions defeated Iowa Park, 17-2, in the finals. Members of the team are Rufaro Mubvumba, Courtney Saylor, Kaylee Delaune, Alyssa Andara, Madie Dobbins, Elide Corona, Claire Mayo, Leah Aldana, Karlee Morrison, Ella Gray, Kell Castleberry, Christopher Martinez, Matthew Goodrum, Jonathan Medina, Atticus Mixson, Nevan Schur, Cross Durham, Ryne Sanders, Hunter Boatman, Sriram Kadiyala, Harley Fulford, head coach Carrie Castleberry and assistants Melanie Chilton and Sara Reeder. The Lions will be looking to defend their state title next weekend.


Congratulations to our VMS boys track team for capturing the Boys Division Championship as the Bowie Junior High Track Meet earlier this week!!


One of our CTE Industry Partners for Animal Science is Main St Vet and during our recent CTE Fair Dr. Robert Conley (center, long beard in photo) spoke to our 7th, 8th and 9th grade students who showed an interest in one of the many careers under the Animal Science umbrella. GOOD LUCK!! To our VHS tennis team as they compete today in the semifinals of the TTCA Class 3A and below Region I Team Tennis Tournament. The Lions will be facing either Spearman or Lubbock Cooper Liberty. The winner of the match moves into the regional tournament championship match that will be played tomorrow morning.

Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward and Assistant Supt. Blaise Boswell cast their ballot for the important March primaries this week during Early Voting. The early voting period ends at 7 p.m., tonight. All early voting is done at the Wilbarger Auditorium in the Forum Room. Vernon ISD encourages ALL registered voters to exercise their right to vote. If you're unable to vote today during early voting, please make time in your scheduled next Tuesday, March 5, and head to the polls.


The girls' Region 1 Powerlifting Meet will be held tomorrow in Colorado City and this morning 23 Lady Lion regional qualifiers loaded on a bus and hit the road.
