Tyrone McBride and Crystal Ruelas were crowned King and Queen of the 2024 VMS Fall Festival during last night's festivities. Both students are in the 8th grade. The boy and girl from each grade who sold the most Fall Festival raffle tickets represented their grade in the Fall King and Queen Court. Then, students votes selected the King and Queen.


The 7th & 8th grade football teams travel to Boyd Thursday for games with their Yellowjacket opponents. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.vancoevents.com/us/eventlist/boyd

Our Lions cross country team captured third place in the District 7-3A Cross Country Meet held Monday in Burkburnett. By finishing third in the Boys Division, the Lions advance to 3A Region 1 Meet that will be held in Lubbock on Oct. 21 or 22. Members of the Lions team are Chris Calvillo, Devin Arthur, Julian Sauceda, Kavian Montoya, and Jackson Ochoa, who had the top individual finish for the team coming in 11th. The Lady Lions were unable to field a complete team, however Alyssa Andara, Emily Rodriguez and Karma Calderon participated as individuals in the Girls Division.










CONGRATULATIONS to our bi-district champion Lions tennis team. They defeated Hereford 11-3 today in Plainview in the Class 4A Team Tennis playoffs. Vernon will take on the winner of the Decatur-Lamesa bi-district match in the next round of the playoffs.


The VHS Mini Cheerleader Clinic for 2nd grade thru 5th grade students will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24. The clinic will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at D.O. Fulton Gym. Those students who take part in the clinic will then cheer with the VHS cheerleaders on the sideline during halftime of Friday night's game. The registration fee for the cheerleader clinic is $40. Forms and registration fees must be turned in at the student's school office by this Friday.


Receiving MVP footballs from Vernon's local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agency for their performance in last Friday night's thrilling 38-35 District 4-3A, Div. 1, victory over Ponder are Defensive MVP Tyce Payne and Special Teams MVP Mu Soe. Not pictured is Offensive MVP Ty Scott. The Lions will be on the road this Friday, as they travel to Boyd to face the Yellowjackets in another district battle.


Along with getting a tour of the fire station yesterday, our first grade students got to meet Sparky!!

Our Lady Lions begin the second round of District 7-3A volleyball action this evening as they travel to Holliday to face the Lady Eagles. The sub-varsity matches will begin at 5 p.m., with the varsity match set to get underway at 6 p.m. GOOD LUCK LADY LIONS!!!


Our Lions tennis team hits the playoff road today, traveling to Plainview for their Class 4A Team Tennis Bi-District Playoff match with Hereford. GOOD LUCK!!!  Brand the Hereford Whitefaces!!! The winner of the Vernon-Hereford bi-district match will meet the winner of the Decatur-Lamesa bi-district match in the area round of the playoffs.


Our VES 5th grade students are working hard this week in Social Studies as they wrap up their unit on the American Revolution. The students are working as journalists covering the Revolutionary War and bringing the latest news to the residents of the colonies.




Earning awards for their play in the Lions' thrilling 38-35 district victory over Ponder last Friday night were:
Offensive MVP -- QB Ty Scott who completed 7-of-9 passes for 200 yards and 2 TDs, and also picked up 151 yards rushing on 15 carries with 2 scores
Defensive MVP -- LB Tyce Payne who collected 11.5 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, recovered a fumble and returned it 38 yards for defensive touchdown
Special Teams MVP -- K Mu Soe who drilled a 33-yard field goal with 8 seconds left for the game-winning points. He also went 5-of-5 on PATs and made 3 big tackles on special teams
Ball Hawk -- DE Bowie Eakin who had 8 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks, and recovered a fumble
Big Stick -- S Carter Kieschnick who had 7 tackles and forced a fumble
Lion Heart -- DE Landon Bynum who had 5 tackles, including 1 sack, and forced a fumble.
Congratulations!! Great job to all the Lions for the big win!!


Students in Ms. TiSierra White's 3rd grade class are currently working on writing letters in class. Recently a class parent provided donuts for all of the students in the class. As part of the lesson, and to show their appreciation, all the students wrote the parent thank you letters for providing the tasty treat.
