We're a little over a week from the start of the 2024-25 school year. Here are the school start and end times for our VISD campuses.

We can't wait to see everyone on our first day of school, Wed., Aug. 14!

There was a good turnout last night at the Lady Lions Volleyball Parent Meeting held at D.O. Fulton Gym. Parents of Middle School and High School volleyball players were on hand. Lady Lions Volleyball Head Coach Amber Hall reviewed the VISD Athletic Policy and went over what the coaches expect when it comes to athletes' attitude and behavior. Coach Hall also introduced the Middle School volleyball coaches and her high school assistant coaches. High school volleyball players begin 2-a-day workouts on Monday.

This past track season VHS senior Julius Dawkins set a new school record in the Triple Jump. He broke the old record -- which he set in 2023 -- by 1 inch. Today, he posted the new record on the VHS Track Record Board located in the VHS Fieldhouse. He took off the 44-feet, 9-inch mark he set last year and put up the 44-feet, 10-inch record he sat in 2024.

Approximately 30 parents attended this morning's Parent Orientation at Vernon Middle School. Parents received information about the PTO program and then broke into groups. The groups rotated through 3 information stations. One station provided information on ROOMS, the platform teachers and parents use to communicate; another went over student drop-off and pick-up procedures and behavior and academic expectations for VMS students; and a third provided information on lunches, extra-curricular activities, and ways students can earn points toward reward trips. Another orientation session, which is open to parents of all VMS students, will be held tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the VMS cafeteria.

**SENIOR PHOTOS** We apologize for the confusion we have had with senior photos. ONLY senior photos will be taken Friday, Aug. 16, beginning at 9 a.m., in the VHS Media Center. Seniors -- if you have already set up an appointment, please keep that time; if you are a senior athlete and competing in games on Aug. 16, please go to the media center in the morning to get your photo taken. Seniors, you MUST check in with your teacher before going to the media center to take your senior picture. Yearbook photos for our juniors, sophomores and freshmen will be taken later in the school year.

We're just 2 weeks away from the start of the 2024-25 school year. Just a quick reminder to our incoming 7th graders of the vaccinations they are required to have this year.

Over 80 incoming 6th grade students attended yesterday's 6th Grade Orientation. Students received their class schedule, checked out their classrooms, found their locker and practiced putting in the lock combination. They received information on how to earn points for the student reward program, and school officials went over the discipline policy and how students are expected to behave in the hallways and the classrooms.

Vernon ISD loves to have parents and community members on our school campuses, and there are plenty of volunteer opportunities at all of our schools. Remember, if you're interested in becoming a volunteer for the 2024-25 school year, you have to apply and pass a background check. Please take a look at the information below. You can also find the volunteer application here https://bit.ly/VISDVolunteerApplication
