
Our students at McCord definitely got into the Homecoming spirit yesterday as they rocked the Red, White & Blue theme Dress Day. Each day this week of Homecoming there's a special theme for Dress Day.









Starting Friday, 9th thru 11th grade students will be able to register for the PSAT which will be given on Thursday, Oct. 10. This is a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which students take as a sophomore or junior. High enough marks on the test as a junior can help a student land a National Merit Scholarship, which can mean big bucks toward a college education. The signup period is Sept. 6 thru Sept. 20. To sign up, students need to see Mrs. Scales in the VHS Office. The cost to take the test is $14 and is due when student signs up.


We apologize for being a bit behind, but here are our VES Students of the Week for the first two weeks of school. Week 1 Students of the Week were: 2nd Grade -- Hazel McIntosh; 3rd Grade -- Averie Bavousett; 4th Grade -- Shawn Duke; and 5th Grade -- Keegan Coley.
Week 2 Students of the Week were: 2nd Grade -- Zaylee Vasquez; 3rd Grade -- Isabella Escobedo; 4th Grade -- Abel Romero; and 5th Grade -- D'Angelo Galvan.
Congratulations to all of these students!! They definitely started the 2024-25 school year off right!!

Our students had fun today with today's Homecoming Week Dress Day theme of wearing red, white and blue!! Wednesday's theme is Twin Day. Our Lions will face the Gainesville Leopard Friday night in the Homecoming Game. The 2024 Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime of the game.

The first NWEA test for VMS students is tomorrow. Please make a note that on NWEA testing days the lunch period for our students will change. Lunch time for 6th Grade will be 11:29 a.m. to 11:54 a.m.; for 7th Grade 12:59 p.m. to 1:24 p.m.; and for 8th Grade 12:14 p.m. to 12:38 p.m.
Test days are Sept. 9, Sept. 9; Sept. 12 and Sept. 18.


This is Homecoming Week leading up to our Lions taking on Gainesville in Friday's Homecoming game. Homecoming King will be crowned during the pep rally that begins at 3:25 p.m., Friday, in D.O. Fulton Gym, and the Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime of the Lions' clash with the Leopards. Our Roarin' Lion Band and VHS Drill Team will perform at 6:30 p.m., before the game.


After enjoying today's Labor Day holiday, VISD students, teachers and staff return to school tomorrow. We left school Friday in the month of August, and return to school tomorrow in the month of September, and here is our cafeteria menu for the month of September.


Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward attended the Vernon Lions Club weekly meeting at lunch today and gave the program for the meeting. Dr. Ward discussed the positive steps and goals the district reached in 2023-24, the district's goals for this school year and the steps being taken to reach those goals.




It was Hawaiian Day for Vernon ISD, and the VHS cheerleaders led the first pep rally of the year this morning as cheerleaders, band, drill team and student body urged the Lions to "Lei Out The Bulldogs" tonight in their 2024 season opener in Burkburnett!!











Three of our 3rd grade students, Maclyn Patterson, Averie Bavousett and Ainsley McIntosh, along with 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Courtney Jansa received a Vernon ISD commemorative coin this morning from VISD Asst. Supt. Blaise Boswell for doing a great job representing their school on the KVWC live morning show This, That & The Other. The radio station broadcast the show remotely from the VES campus.

Our Vernon Lady Lions went 3-1 in pool play Thursday at the BUFLS Tournament in Nocona and will be in the Gold Bracket for Saturday's bracket play. Their first match will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday. In Pool Play, Vernon defeated Newcastle 29-27, 25-10; City View, 25-10, 25-16, and Northside 25-22, 25-17. The Lady Lions fell to Windthorst, 25-18, 25-18.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions were Mari Johnson with 20 kills, 4 ace serves, 3 blocks and 6 digs; Key'Maria McBride with 18 kills, 7 ace serves, 2 blocks, 13 digs and 10 assists; and Klancy Sherrill with 15 kills, 4 ace serves, 6 digs and 6 assists.


Yesterday Mrs. Allison Stanley's Chemistry classes had their first lab of the school year. The students learned how to light a Bunsen Burner, along with the correct technique on how to measure the mass of different objects and how to filter sand from water.








Fridays are SNACK days at Vernon Elementary.


Remember -- tomorrow is an early release Friday for Vernon ISD. Students get a jump start on their three-day weekend!!


Vernon ISD students and staff have a 3-day weekend coming up, as school will be out Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday.


Get your walking/running shoes on and get ready for the VMS Lion's Roar 1K/5K Walk/Run. Tomorrow is the deadline to register and get a tshirt, so be sure and sign up!! You don't want to miss it!


Starting next week our VES students will have the opportunity to purchase ice cream for a $1. We will have ice cream every week. 2nd & 3rd graders will be able to get an ice cream treat every Wednesday, while ice dream day for our 4th & 5th graders will be Thursday. Remember -- ice cream treats start Sept. 4.
