A student in Mrs. Kimberly Adams' science class shows her excitement when her lab experiment is a success. The experiment involved a beaker filled with vinegar and a balloon filled with baking soda. When the student lifted the balloon and poured the baking soda into the vinegar, the chemical reaction caused the balloon to blow up

Earlier this week Mrs. Audrey Hastings' Culinary Arts students participated in a "Silent Lab." In the lab, students had to follow a set of instructions silently. Using only non-verbal communication, students worked together building teamwork and trust, as well as participated in proper kitchen procedures. When the lab was completed, the students enjoyed their Rice Krispie Treats.

Third grade students just finished a story entitled "Marisol McDonald Doesn't Match." It is a story about a girl who dresses mismatched and tells how that embodies her uniqueness and her marvelous self. It shows students it is OK to be different and to "just be you." Students in Mrs. Jansas's class found many connections to the story and wanted to dress mismatch to tell themselves that they are each unique in their own way.

If VES meets their donation goal there will be a pizza party and every student who had someone donate in their name will receive a pizza. It was McCord Elementary's turn this morning to host a "Grandparents & Special Friends" breakfast and big smiles could be seen and laughter could be heard throughout the cafeteria. Children love it when family members visit their school and this was definitely true this morning.

Our VMS Fall Festival is set for Tuesday, Oct. 8. An information meeting for parents, grandparents and other community residents who would like to help with the event will be held at 6 p.m., next Monday, Sept. 16, in the VMS Cafeteria.
