
Our VES students are studying a character trait each month, and the character trait for September has been empathy. Our teachers chose one student from each grade who has been doing the best job exhibiting empathy. Those students are: River Gilchrist, 2nd grade; Luke Englishbee, 3rd grade; Elijah Clark, 4th grade; and JW Rodriguez, 5th grade. We are super proud of these students. Great job!!


A quick reminder that tomorrow is an early-release Friday for Vernon ISD students.


Receiving MVP footballs from Vernon's local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agency for their performance in the Lions' 56-0 victory over Frederick last Friday night are Israel Espinoza, Special Teams MVP; Carson Schoppa, Offensive MVP; and Manny Ochoa, Defensive MVP. The Lions wrapped up the non-district portion of their schedule with a 3-1 record and open District 4-3A, Div. 1 action this week when they travel to Paradise to face the Panthers.


Don't forget!! The VMS Success Rally for the first six weeks will be held Friday. Following the success rally, students who have qualified will go on their incentive trip to Allingham Park.


Yesterday the first meeting of the 2024-25 Superintendent Student Advisory Council was held in the VISD Boardroom. Sixteen Vernon High School students were selected to be on the council based on teacher recommendations. VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward explained his reasons for having a student advisory council with the group during the meeting and discussed some of the things the council will be doing this year. Members of the council this year are Aye Ham, Jabeya Epie, Claire Mayo, Yuleyka Ramirez, Joselyn Fuentes, Will Castleberry, Javier Martinez, Jamerion Willie, Kysen Jolly, Bowie Eakin, Martin Clemente, and (not pictured) Alyssa Garcia, Reagan Baskerville, Jonathan Medina, Soula Johnson, and Tru Gipson.



Our Lady Lions are home today for a District 7-3A volleyball match against the Iowa Park Lady Hawks. The JV matches will begin at 5 p.m. in D.O. Fulton Gym and the PE Gym. The Lady Lions should take the court at D.O. Fulton Gym at 6 p.m. for the varsity match. GO LADY LIONS!! Hammer the Lady Hawks!!


Join us for the 2nd Annual LIONS ROAR Tailgate on October 25th—a fantastic celebration just like last year's homecoming event! We invite Vernon ISD school clubs, VISD-endorsed organizations, local businesses, churches, and community groups to participate. Only Vernon ISD entities can sell items, and Vernon ISD will not be providing prizes for booths.
This year, we’ll set up in the horseshoe drive in front of Vernon Elementary School for safety and celebration of our campus. Participants must supply their own materials and manage cleanup. The event kicks off at 4:30 PM, and booths can close as needed for the 7 PM game kickoff.
If your group wants to participate, please complete this Google form by end of the day, October 4th.

Work is underway to make this year's VMS Fall Festival one of the best ever. Students, we need YOU to sell raffle tickets! You can pick up tickets during your lunch period. Parents wishing to pick up tickets can do so at the VMS Office. If parents need a lot of tickets, please email amy.frank@visdtx.org
Anyone wishing to donate items may drop them off at the VMS Office. Items we still need include: 4-5 pound bags of individually wrapped candy; 25 count of individually wrapped pretzels, gummy bears, goldfish, animal crackers, etc.; 12 party favor prizes; 2-liter bottles of soft drinks; individually wrapped baked goods (cupcakes, cookies, etc.); items for our live/silent auction. Friday morning MVPs from the Lions' game last week against City View received their MVP footballs from our local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance agency. Those MVPs were: Parker Flynn on offense; Tyce Payne on defense; and Mu Soe on special teams. Congratulations guys and thank you to Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for providing the footballs.


Today members of the Vernon Elementary School PTO dropped by the campus with a treat for our teachers and staff. PTO members took a yogurt bar around to classrooms and other areas of the school, and teachers and staff were able to make their own yogurt parfaits!!




It was neon bright in D.O. Fulton Gym this morning for the Lion Pride Pep Rally theme of "Blind the Bombers" with Neon Dress-Up Day. The 4th and 5th grade students from Vernon Elementary joined in the fun and had a great time. They won the class cheer competition!! The Lions face the Frederick Bombers tonight in their final non-district game. The Lady Lions host Jacksboro in a district volleyball match that begins at 4 p.m., with the varsity match.

The students in Brett White's Pre-AP World History classes have been discussing early civilizations and were given the task of learning the 72 day process of mummification. Each group of students had to use "fine linen, herbs and spices" as well as write their names in hieroglyphics. Teachers were brought in to grade each mummy. Coach White said a great job was done by all of the students.









The VMS Success Rally for the first six weeks of school will be held Friday, Sept. 27. Each grade will have a separate time for their rally: 6th Grade -- 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; 8th Grade -- 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; and 7th Grade -- 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
The Rewards Trip is to Allingham Park & Games. Concessions will be open. To earn the Rewards Trip, students must have: No more than 2 absences; No detentions; No ISS; No OSS; No DAEP; and No failing grades.


Our Lions are looking to bounce back from last week's loss and back into the win column tonight when they host the Bombers from Frederick. Action will kick off at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium at 7 p.m. Halftime will feature performances from our Roarin' Lion Band and VHS Drill Team.
