The Lions improved their overall record to 6-2 and their district record to 3-1 Friday night with a 51-26 victory over Bowie. QB Ty Scott was named the Offensive MVP, throwing for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for another 166 yards and 2 scores. Safety Carter Kieschnick received the Ball Hawk Award with 2 pass breakups and 3.5 tackles. The Big Stick Award went to Izzy Espinoza for his big hit on a special teams tackle. Kicker Mu Sue went 7-for-7 on PATs and had a tackle to earn Special Team MVP honors. The entire Lions defensive squad received the Lion Heart Award, and the Defensive MVP honor went to the late Gayla DeHoyos, who was honored prior to the game.

During halftime of Friday's football game close to 200 of our Vernon Elementary students took the field to perform a Cotton-eyed Joe dance routine with the VHS Drill Team. They did a great job and we're proud of their performance!

Students in Mrs. Inman's 4th grade Social Studies class wrapped up their project on Native Americans Friday by presenting the dioramas they made and giving a presentation to their class on the tribe they researched. Each student researched an Indian tribe native to Texas. In their research, they answered questions such as what area of Texas the tribe lived in; what tools the tribe used; what they wore; what they ate; and what type of structures they live in.
I am sorry it is late notice but I wanted to let you know my classes are presenting their indian dioramas today from 9:45-11:35 and 1:45-3:35 if you have some time to come snap some pictures. Again I am so sorry this is late notice.

"Pink Out" was the theme of Friday's Lions Pride pep rally. The VHS cheerleaders also finished off a cheer by making a breast cancer awareness ribbon with their pom-poms. The Lions went on to defeat Bowie in a district football game, while the Lady Lions knocked off the Lady Rabbits in a district volleyball game.

Our students were definitely bright Friday, as they were decked out for Pink Out Day!

DPS State Trooper Gutierrez (aka Trooper G) stopped by McCord Wednesday to talk to students about basic safety -- the importance of knowing their own address and phone number, and how/when to dial 911 for emergencies. Trooper G also discussed Halloween safety tips with the students. Those trick or treat safety tips included: staying with an adult; using a flashlight or glow stick in the dark; and to have an adult check their candy before they start to eat it.

On Wednesday, students in Mrs. Newcomer's class conducted a science experiment to see if the shape and size of a magnet made a difference in how many paper clips it could pick up.
