Last week, third grade students in Ms. TiSierra White's class had a fun -- and tasty -- assignment that brought math to life and helped them learn how to find perimeter and area. In a math exercise, each student was given a handful of Cheez-Its to use as their measuring tools. They arranged the crackers in various shapes on their desks to calculate the perimeter and area. They worked together to solve problems and discover how the size of their shapes affected the measurements. The best part? After completing the exercise they got to enjoy eating the Cheez-Its as a well-earned snack.

Here are a few more photos from today's "Warm and Cozy" day, the theme for Day 8 in our VHS 10 School Days of Christmas. Students definitely enjoyed enjoyed wearing pajamas to school.

It was "Triplets Day" at VHS Wednesday as part of the 10 School Days of Christmas Days. The day was in honor of three students -- Will Castleberry, Bowie Eakin and Sriram Kadiyala -- who are the VHS Character Recognition Students of the Month for December. The three young men help clean the lunchroom after lunch every single day! They are the epitome of students who are kind and helpful, and who contribute to improving our school environment. "Triplets Day" was a fun way to recognize Will, Bowie and Sriram for their selfless contribution to VHS. Principal Dr. Jackson said VHS is proud and blessed to have students on our campus.

On Monday, our 3rd Grade held its Culture and Heritage Fair. The students rotated through different classrooms and learned about a few different cultures and businesses in town. Taylor Edmonds spoke on art and her business, Paint Your Peace; Cooper Alexander talked about the Red River Valley Museum, as well as local ranching at the Waggoner Ranch and the Alexander Ranch; Jessica Miller spoke about being a local author and her book "Teach Kate"; Manuel Perez talked about Mexican culture; and Shane Jansa spoke about farming.

Our VMS Winter Formal was held last Friday and during the festivities we crowned our Winter Formal King and Queen for each grade. Coronation candidates -- five boys and five girls from each grade -- were chosen by teachers as being overall good students and good young people, and positive role models for their grade level. Students in each grade level then voted for the king and queen.
Those crowned Winter Formal King and Queen were: 8th Grade -- Sophia Bohannon & Aaden Valdez; 7th Grade -- Kynsleigh Hamm & Jaiden Scales; 6th Grade -- Camila Gonzalez & Kayden Contreras.
