🥎SOFTBALL GAME CHANGES FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY🥎
The softball games scheduled for today, Friday, February 24, in the Archer City Tournament have been cancelled.
We will be playing the following games tomorrow (Saturday):
12:45pm: Vernon vs. Electra at Holliday
4:15pm: Vernon vs. Archer City at Archer City

Today, I sat in on the ACT prep sessions with all VHS 11th graders that we arranged. I am very proud of the effort and attentiveness of our kids as they learned quite a bit about the needed approach to being successful on the ACT test. The district paid for each 11th grader to have access to this opportunity and will follow this up with paying for each and every 11th grader at VHS to take the ACT on campus in a few weeks. Districts often say that they have high expectations for each student, yet will stumble when asked for proof. This is just one demonstration of our proof. ALL really does mean ALL in V.I.S.D. and I am loving it.

🚨UPDATE: The reported threat in the Vernon area has been resolved by Vernon law enforcement. All campuses will revert back to their normal status. Thank you for your trust!!!
We were made aware of a 3rd party threat on a building near the Vernon Middle School campus today. Although the threat was not regarding the Vernon Middle School campus itself, we take this and any other threats seriously and will be overly aggressive in keeping kids safe. For this reason, I have mandated that Vernon Middle School, Central Elementary, Opportunity Center, and DAEP be moved to “secure” status. What this means is that all exterior classes will be moved inside so that all of our students can remain safe under the close watch of all staff members.
Respectfully,
Dr. Kermit Ward

🩺A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE🩺
Today I was informed that Vernon College now requires the Men B vaccine as a requirement for entry into college. I am going to assume that other colleges may have the same requirement, so please look into it if you are applying to college. The health department has notified me that they can only give the Men B vaccine that they currently have in stock to kids aged 16-18. Unfortunately, if they are 19, they can not receive the vaccine for free at the health department.
It is suggested that any student that is considering admission to college should go ahead and receive the Men B series before they turn 18. They are also still required to have the 2nd dose of MCV, but they will now need the Men B also.
If you have any questions, please contact our nurse, Jennifer Walker, at 940-552-6231, ext. 3, or via email at jennifer.walker@visdtx.org.

📢 WE'RE HIRING!! 📢
Vernon ISD is hiring a Secondary Instructional Coach and an Elementary Instructional Coach. You can apply online at bit.ly/ApplyVISD. We can't wait to work with you!

On March 20th at 5:30pm in the HS Cafeteria, sophomores and their parents are encouraged to attend the VC Dual Credit Orientation which will cover dual credit classes for the next year. This meeting is mandatory if a student plans on taking dual credit classes.

The VHS Government class recently went on two field trips. The first field trip took the class to view Doans Crossing to learn about early government in Wilbarger County and finished up with a tour of Red River Valley Museum. We were fortunate enough to have the former Mayor of Vernon, Jeff Bearden, and curator Cooper Alexander (VHS alum) take us through both sites.
On our next tour, we were given a court lesson with Judge Cornell Curtis on how the court system works. Judge Curtis fielded all sorts of questions by students.
Many thanks to our professionals of Wilbarger County giving back to our seniors!

This weekend 10 of our VHS wrestlers represented us at the Regional Wrestling Tournament in Canyon, TX. Several advanced to the second day, with 1 moving on.
Isaiah Sanchez placed 4th in Region 1 and will be representing Vernon at the State Wrestling Tournament this weekend. Great job and good luck, Isaiah!
