Our VHS tennis team will be competing Wednesday and Thursday in the District 7-3A Singles & Doubles Tournament. The first and second place finishers in each event will advance to the regional tournament. Good luck!!

Our Vernon Lady Lions just missed out on a trip to the Class 3A State Track & Field Meet today, as they finished third in the 800-Meter Relay at the Class 3A Region 1 Meet that concluded today. The event was scheduled to finish Saturday, however the rain pushed the conclusion of the meet to today. The top two places in each event qualify for State.
The relay team of Klancy Sherrill, Zayleigh Sweet, Mari Johnson and Key'Maria McBride took third with a time of 1-minute, 46.20-seconds. Klancy also finished seventh today in the 300-Meter Hurdles with a time of 48.84 seconds.
On Friday, Key'Maria just missed out on a trip to State in the Triple Jump, finishing third with a leap of 37-feet, 2.5-inches. In the High Jump, Klancy cleared 5-feet and finished eighth, and Mari had a throw of 105-feet, 8-inches to finish tenth in the Discus.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! To Jackson Aydelott and Kameron Plyler who will be representing Vernon at the Class 3A State Track & Field Meet. Today, Jackson set a new Class 3A Region 1 Track & Field Meet record and took the gold medal in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 47.45 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 22.06 seconds.
Kameron won the High Jump on Friday when he cleared 6-feet, 5-inches. Also on Friday, Julius Dawkins finished fourth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 44-feet, 7.75-inches. Jamari Chance also competed in the Triple Jump had his best distance was 42-feet, 1-inch.
Vernon had tough luck in the 800-Meter and Mile Relay. The Lions dropped the stick in the 800-Meter relay. In the Mile Relay, our squad finished with the third-best time in the prelims, but was disqualified for running out of our lane.

Spring is here and it's time to buy plants for your garden!! Our annual FFA Plant Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to Noon, Saturday. Our FFA students have over 5,000 plants to sell this year consisting of numerous bedding plants, potted plants, hanging baskets and vegetables!! The first 50 people in the door Saturday morning will receive a 15% off coupon. For purchases of $80 or more, you will receive a special blend fertilizer mixture to help protect your investment.


Keeping children entertained and busy during the summer can sometimes be hard to do. VISD has a solution to that problem -- Art and Chess camps. These camps will be held June 17-20. The Art Camp has sessions for students in junior high and high school, while the Chess Camp is for students in third thru eighth grade. See the flyers below for more information.


Quick reminder that our Vernon Elementary Blood Drive for the Our Blood Institute (formerly Texas Blood Institute) will be held tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. Also remember if an adult donates blood in the name of one of our students, the student earns a pizza!!

The McCord Spring Program featuring the Kindergarten Class was held last night at the Wilbarger Auditorium. The students went through a variety of songs they've learned this year including "Walk To School Song," "Count To 100 Silly Song," "Peanut Butter & Jelly Song," and the "Short Vowel Song."










Our Lady Lions wrap up their 2024 season tonight as they take on the Henrietta Lady Cats. This is also Senior Night for the Lady Lions. Senior activities start at 4:15 p.m., with the varsity game to begin at 5 p.m. at Ronda Havins Softball Field. The Lions will play at 7 p.m., following the JV game that begins at 4:30 p.m. at Jabe Brazzle Field.

Today, Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward and Asst. Supt. Blaise Boswell popped in at VHS to distribute popcorn to all teachers and staff to show the district's appreciation for all they do for their campus and their students. Dr. Ward also provided a quick lesson to students a Spanish class, and he and Blaise listened to English teacher Doug Patterson has he explained what activity students in his classroom were doing today. Administration will be popping in at each campus on selected Fridays as we close out the school year.




A report of seeing a post concerning a possible threat to a "Vernon Middle School" was made this morning campus administrators this morning. Please read the statement below for more information.

Due to the inclement weather expected on Saturday, the decision has been made to postpone the VISD Lions Roar Golf Scramble. While disappointing, the safety of our participants and the integrity of the event are our utmost priorities. We are pleased to announce the event has been rescheduled for Aug. 23, 2024!
All sponsorships will be rolled over to that date automatically. Once again, we extend our sincerest gratitude for your support and understanding during this unforeseen circumstances.
