
It was Senior Recognition Night for members of the Lady Lions softball and track teams Tuesday night at Ronda Havins Softball Field prior to Vernon's game against Holliday. Players and their family escort were announced as they walked onto the field.
Softball seniors are Katie Dodd, Laurel Easley and McKyla Myers.
Track seniors are Zayleigh Sweet, who is also a softball manager, Kaitlyn Beam, Mijah Johnson, Maree Johnson, and Key'Maria McBride.











After postponing the Vernon-Holliday game due to field conditions yesterday, we're good to go today at Jabe Brazzle Field. The Lions will take on the Eagles in a District 7-3A contest, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. The JV game will follow at approximately 7 p.m.


We have 17 Lady Lion and Lion athletes representing Vernon in 10 events at the 7-3A/8-3A Area Track & Field Meet being held tomorrow in Graham. Those finishing in the top 4 of their events in last week's District Meet qualified for the Area Meet. The top 4 finishers in each event from the Area Meet advance to the Region 1 Track & Field Meet being held next week at Abilene Christian University.

Vernon's game against Holliday that was scheduled for today has been postponed until tomorrow. On Wednesday, the varsity will play first at 4 p.m., with the JV game to follow. Good luck Lions!!!

The home finale for our Lady Lions softball team is scheduled for today when we host the Holliday Lady Eagles at Ronda Havins Softball Field. This is also Senior Recognition Night, with those activities getting underway at 4:45 p.m., leading up to the 5 p.m. start of the game. Good luck Lady Lions!!

Sixteen students were inducted into the VHS National Honor Society during a ceremony held Monday evening in the VHS Cafeteria. Five juniors and 11 sophomores took the NHS pledge and received their certificates. The VHS Art Show will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., tomorrow, in the VHS Art Room. Students in our Art 3 & Art 4 classes will be exhibiting their artwork. We have some wonderfully talented artists roaming our hallways. Stop by tomorrow and check it out yourself.


This afternoon our National Honor Society students went over to Vernon Elementary to spend time with the 2nd grade students in the Gifted & Talented Program. The high school students helped the elementary youngsters build an electronic bug that included motors, switches, wires, and even 'antennas'. The bugs then scooted around the hallway.











KAUZ-TV, Channel 6, will be in town today broadcasting their weather report live from Vernon High School for both their 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., newscasts. Their special guest will be VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward.


Last week, Mrs. Hastings' Intro to Culinary students learned all about pasta. After researching the history of pasta, the students made fresh pasta by hand, and were then able to enjoy their freshly-made pasta.






Wednesday, April 30, our VISD All-Star athletes will get their chance to shine at our Vernon All-Star Olympics!! This is a warm-up for our athletes, who will go on to compete at Altus in an Area All-Star Olympics event in May. Donations are currently being accepted to help make our Vernon All-Star Olympics extra-special!! Come on out to Lions Stadium on April 30 and cheer on our All-Star athletes!


Our Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a Passion Workout on Monday, April 14, that is open to the public. Dinner will be provided for all students following the workout. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., on Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.


We apologize for the late post, but yesterday, April 4, was School Librarian Appreciation Day and we have four of the best! Mary Charo, Lisa Hass, Emily Richey, and Loren Vontungeln all go above and beyond at their campuses in both their own duties, and in helping staff and students. We do -- indeed -- appreciate these four ladies!!

Our One-Act Play competed at district earlier this month, and while the play did not advance to the next round of competition, three individuals earned special recognition. Garrett Munson received the Best Tech Award, while actors Logan Luster and Creed Feltman received honorable mention All-Star Cast honors.
The public will have two opportunities this weekend to see a performance of "Black Snow" our One-Act Play production. We will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Wilbarger Auditorium, and again at 5 p.m., Saturday, at the VHS Cafeteria. Admission is $5.
After the One-Act Play, there will be a Film Showcase featuring the film that earned 2nd place at the State competition, as well as the other films that advanced to compete at State.
