Our gold, silver and bronze medalists from the 3A State Singles & Doubles Tennis Tournament will returning to Vernon at approximately 10:30 p.m. tonight and will be escorted down Wilbarger Street and to the VHS tennis courts by the Vernon Police Department. We have gold medalists in Lily Beam & Will Castleberry; silver medalists in Jonathan Medina & Nevan Schur; and bronze medalist in Hunter Boatman.
Line Wilbarger Street and fall in line after they pass you, or hang out at the tennis courts and await their arrival!!

Lily Beam & Will Castleberry claimed the 3A Mixed Doubles state title with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the championship match. In 3A Boys Doubles, Jonathan Medina & Nevan Schur won the first set 6-3, but were unable to pull out the victory, as they dropped the next two sets 6-1, 6-4. This is the third consecutive state silver medal the duo has won, which is quite an accomplishment. Hunter Boatman picked up a bronze medal in 3A Boys Singles. Congratulations to all!! Great job!! We're proud of you!!!

Teachers have a big impact on students at all levels, but none more so than at high school. Earlier this week a few of our students received a question and then took a flower to the teacher who answered that question for them. The students had fun taking part in this Teacher Appreciation Week activity, and as you will be able to tell, a few teachers were surprised. https://youtu.be/mHtSEimoYI0

Sometimes junior high students don't want to talk much about their teachers, but these Middle School students knew just which one of their teachers answered the question they were given and delivered a flower to that teacher to show how mcy they are appreciated! STATE TENNIS UPDATE -- Vernon will be represented in two bracket championship matches at the Class 3A State Singles & Doubles Tennis Tournament this afternoon in San Antonio! In Mixed Doubles, Lily Beam & Will Castleberry cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in their semifinal match this morning to advance to the state title match. In Boys Doubles, Jonathan Medina & Nevan Schur's semifinal match was a little more thrilling, as they pulled out a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory to move on to their third consecutive state final. The state final matches will begin at 1:15 p.m.
In Boys Singles, Hunter Boatman suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss as the senior's high school tennis career comes to an end. He will receive a bronze medal.

STATE TENNIS UPDATE -- After receiving a first-round bye, Lily Beam and Will Castleberry cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the quarterfinal round of Mixed Doubles. They advance to the semifinal round along with Hunter Boatman in Boys Singles, and Jonathan Medina and Nevan Schur in Boys Doubles. By advancing to the semifinals, all are guaranteed to come home with a state medal!! Congratulations!! Now -- LET'S GO FOR GOLD!!! Semifinals will be played tomorrow morning, with the finals in the afternoon.

STATE UPDATE -- In Boys Singles, Hunter Boatman won his first-round match 6-1, 6-0. In Boys Doubles, Jonathan Medina and Nevan Schur picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the first round. The Mixed Doubles team of Lily Beam and Will Castleberry do not take the court for their first-round match until 2:30 p.m.

Our Vernon tennis players will take the court tomorrow at the UIL Class 3A Singles & Doubles State Tournament being held in San Antonio. Good luck to: Lily Beam & Will Castleberry in Mixed Doubles; Jonathan Medina & Nevan Schur in Boys Doubles; and Hunter Boatman in Boys Singles!! Let's bring home some hardware!!

Our Vernon ISD Band Program will be presenting its Spring Concert tomorrow evening. The concert begins at 6 p.m., at the Wilbarger Auditorium. The 6th Grade and 7th Grade Bands will perform, and the final band on the stage will be the Sweepstakes Award-Winning Roarin' Lion Band!

Receiving our Student of the Week honors for last week (April 27-May 1) were: 2nd Grade -- Jaxson Koch; 3rd Grade -- Abigail Deleon; 4th Grade -- Natasha Nubumrung; and 5th Grade -- Lilliana Gonzalez. Congratulations!! Keep up the good work!!
