Students Check Out Bald Turkey

It’s Turkey Time at VES!!! Well, Turkey Bowl Time that is.

Today, every classroom received a poster of bald turkey. The objective – to dress the turkey with as many feathers as possible. The event is the first fundraiser of the new VES Student Council.

Starting Friday, each day during lunch students will be able to purchase feathers for .25 cents each. They take the feathers back to their classroom and the feathers are put on the turkey. The classroom from each grade level that buys the most feathers will advance to compete in the Turkey Bowl, which will be held the morning of Friday, Nov. 17. Students will be able to buy feathers starting tomorrow until Thursday, Nov. 16.

All students will get to watch the Turkey Bowl and cheer on their classmates in the VES Gym.

Each student in the four winning classes – one from each grade level – will receive a goodie bag and will participate in the Turkey Bowl. The winning student in the Turkey Bowl will win a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving.

With the funds collected from the Turkey Bowl, the members of the Student Council will select stars from the Jaycees' Christmas Star Tree, which represents children from Vernon families that need assistance in making this Christmas a merry one for the children. So, the more money raised during the Turkey Bowl, the more stars the Student Council can select and the more children they can help have a special Christmas.

With their sponsor along, the Student Council members will go shopping for their Star Tree children, pack the sacks with the Christmas presents, and take them to the Waggoner National Bank.

So, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th graders – bring your quarters and buy those feathers!!! Let’s make sure all of your turkeys can stay warm this winter with a full, thick coat of feathers!!
